When I woke up this morning, I wasn't sure how I was feeling. Yesterday's hard and painful work had me feeling as if I had taken two steps forward and two steps backward.
Promptly at 9:00, my phone rang and it was Simone calling for my nutrition profile consultation. Human Garage partners with QürEcology Labs for testing. They measure for 14 biomarkers in a subclinical testing of urine and saliva. The results show deficiencies or imbalances that could become problems long before they ever show up in the blood.
I learned an enormous amount during our hour long conversation, and hung up feeling positive and that I could tackle the dietary changes required. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the philosophy at the Garage is that one should get their nutrients from food, but initial supplemental support can be called for to undergird the processes of change. Simone used the lab results and the information gleaned from our conversation to come up with a specific plan for me.
When I showed up at the Garage for my 2:00pm appointment, I had the opportunity to meet many other people with whom I had previously spoken on the phone. Every single one gave me a big hug. That is most assuredly a regular practice here. I've hugged more strangers in the last 4 days! Actually, none feel like strangers. There is an atmosphere of family here, one of like-mindedness and motivated people on similar missions. I love that.
It was bustling in the Garage - it rather felt like school after the homeroom bell before first period! Adrianne was my practitioner today. She had received a head's up from Bryan concerning the issues of my jaw, so today's work was head and neck beginning at the pectorals major and minor. It hurt, but no problem! I handled all the work today without issue - and I had none of the emotional triggers like I have experienced on other days. Before the appointment this morning I went through Bryan's energy meditation as best I could remember it. I wonder if that focus helped me with the pain? In any event it was a good exercise.
I asked Adrianne how she came to be at the Garage. She had worked with special needs (mainly autistic) children for 15 years. She also played and coaches volleyball and had had surgery on her knee. The surgery led her to acupuncture which led her to the desire to improve her health and be able to help her athletes, too. So, at 40 she went back to school for massage and worked for a sports chiropractor for a few years. Unsatisfied, she found her way to the Garage and never wanted to leave. I think that is how most of the people here are hired. Once they get here, they feel as if they have found their people.
I feel that way, too.
One final check in with Dr. Amanda, the other chiropractor, more walking and photos. Then I was on my way.
Tomorrow is my first Biomechanical Development session, and my last session of this first visit. I have no idea what's next.
Photo 1: My chin is higher and shoulders better positioned. Eyes straight ahead.
Photo 2: Scapula much less tight - visible ease of shoulder tension. I'm obsessed with how my head goes to my right off the midline. That is the reason my left upper back bothers me. My body is trying to pull my head back. And all that stems from the issues with my jaw. I really can't help that, considering my history. That gives me encouragement. Now that the jaw is realigned I can retrain myself to chew on the right. The fascia/muscular skeletal system always works to right the body.
FASCINATING. right? The body is such a miraculous thing. Awesome, truly.
