Today I met OJ at 9:30am for my 6th bodywork session. The way the protocol is at Human Garage, there are four initial bodywork sessions (I think they are called Steps) and then two additional Tune-Up sessions should you need them. I was pretty darn sure I would since I did the first visits so close to one another. I knew I couldn't possibly have sustained all the corrections and there was additional work to be done.
I love OJ! He is a sweet, quiet guy. Each of the practitioners here has a different touch and approach to their work. I think OJ was the perfect guy with whom to finish up my sessions. Before I got on the table, he took me through the series of assessments - arms over head, turning head side to side, touching your back with the back of the hand, etc. I walked a little, talked to him specifically about the issues I felt in the trapezius/scapula and the comments made to me by Brian in my Fascia Flow session about that area.
Today's session was the most area specific of any session I have had thus far. The first part of the appointment was spent on my quads. The remaining time OJ worked on my torso with much of the attention to my trapezius muscle. During this time, OJ discovered that my trapezius does not have full, free function. The mid portion of the muscle freezes which impacts my shoulder rotation. That compensatory action wreaks havoc that is created throughout the body, a snowball of muscle functions (or lack thereof) that cause issues in other areas. The good news is that OJ was able to improve and wake up communication and function while I was on the table. He added one more neurological test for me to practice daily to help retrain the connection and improve proper function of my trapezius.
These final photos tell the story. If you look particularly at my trachea in the front facing photos, see how much straighter my head is! And look at the line of my hip in the first photo and then in the last photo. When I got off the table and walked, my chest felt more open than it ever has, and I felt much more erect. Notice the position of my neck and shoulder in the side view. Such a difference! My mood has definitely improved and I feel back on track with the work I'm doing. I'm grateful I have had this opportunity.
